A Magical Christmas at the Hotel de Londres y de Inglaterra

The Christmas spirit will start to come alive on November 29th with the famous Christmas lights switch-on, when the well-known arches and colourful cubes along the Urumea river promenade will also light up, revealing the most enchanting side of the city. We recommend taking a ride on the 36-metre panoramic Ferris wheel located in Alderdi Eder square, near our hotel. From this illuminated wheel, another characteristic symbol of the festive season, you will be able to enjoy incredible views of La Concha Bay.

For families, we suggest visiting the traditional Nativity scene in Gipuzkoa Square, which has been a part of Christmas in the city for six decades. It is an open-air nativity made up of nearly 150 one-metre-tall figures that recreate various Christmas scenes. Additionally, the delightful aroma of roasted chestnuts fills the square, thanks to the nearby stalls, offering the perfect festive snack.

 

 

December 21st marks the time to dress as “Kaxeritos”! The city will transform into a rural market with the traditional Santo Tomás Fair, mainly held in Constitution Square. Music, a festive atmosphere, and especially the chance to taste the traditional and renowned talo with txistorra, accompanied by a good cider in many bars across the city, including the bar at our hotel. As a family activity, we also suggest strolling through the Old Town, seeing the animals presented by local farmers (sheep, hens, etc.), browsing the stalls, or watching the traditional pig exhibition.

On December 22nd, we will welcome our beloved Olentzero and Mari Domingi. We will accompany our favourite charcoal-maker through the neighbourhood until we reach our hotel terrace, where the Orfeón Donostiarra Txiki will perform a series of Christmas carols, and children will have the opportunity to hand their letters full of wishes and dreams to Olentzero and Mari Domingi in person.

But the magic and joy do not end there. On December 24th, the grand parade of Olentzero and Mari Domingi will take place, with the pair making their way through various neighbourhoods of the city. Children will be able to collect sweets and hand in their letters, creating unique memories that will last forever.

 

 

In line with the local tradition of children singing door to door on December 24th, a choir will tour the communal areas of our hotel, singing carols and filling the hotel with festive music and joy.

This festive atmosphere will carry over to December 25th at midday, with the special Christmas lunch prepared by the hotel. A delightful culinary experience that can be enjoyed surrounded by your nearest and dearest, creating unforgettable moments.

On December 31st, our choir will once again fill the hotel with festive spirit, wishing everyone a happy New Year. If you are looking for a more active way to celebrate, what better way than participating in the San Silvestre race? This traditional run, held since 1985, passes through the city’s most iconic spots. And to end the day and the year on a high, enjoy the final night with your family, friends, or partner, savouring a delicious menu prepared with the care and attention to detail that define us, adding the perfect finishing touch to 2024.

And as expected, after ending the year in the sweetest way possible, start 2025 in the best way. Delight in the gastronomy (special New Year’s menu), while enjoying the views of La Concha Bay, and surround yourself with the best company.

If all these activities aren’t enough, to close out the Christmas festivities, on January 5th, the grand parade of the Three Wise Men from the East will take place. They will visit our city with their traditional procession, bringing incense, myrrh, gold, and many gifts for everyone.
